Is Self-Sabotage a Gift?
Jan 09, 2026
You can usually tell self-sabotage by what comes after.
You feel worse.
And then you add more weight by hitting yourself over the head for not getting it right… again.
So no — self-sabotage doesn’t feel like a gift.
But I’ve been sitting with a different question lately:
What if self-sabotage isn’t just a problem… what if it’s a bridge?
MIND — Self-Sabotage as a Bridge
Self-sabotage often appears right after a forward thought.
A moment of clarity about something that would genuinely improve your life:
A better conversation.
A healthier boundary.
A new offer.
A decision you’ve delayed.
A habit you know would change your energy.
And then… you don’t act.
Conveniently, it keeps you exactly where you are.
That’s frustrating.
Sometimes it’s heartbreaking.
But if you slow down and really look at it, something important becomes clear:
You had the thought.
You saw the path.
You noticed the choice-point.
That means you’re not asleep.
You’re not broken.
You’re aware.
So what if the “I did it again” moment isn’t the end of the story — but the place where next time you choose differently?
Seen this way, self-sabotage becomes:
A signal.
A marker on the road.
A bridge from an old pattern to a new choice.
A question to sit with this week:
What did I almost do that would have moved my life forward — and what did I choose instead?
No shame.
Just data.
Because the win isn’t never self-sabotaging again.
The win is noticing sooner, recovering faster, and choosing differently next time.
MONEY — Beliefs → Bottom Line
People plan with KPIs.
I’ve never loved KPIs.
They bore me… or maybe I avoid them — I’m not sure.
But one thing I do know:
Your beliefs are intrinsically linked to your bottom line.
Scared to be seen. Scared you’re not enough. Scared there isn’t enough.
Those aren’t just “mindset issues”. They’re money issues.
Because beliefs shape behaviour:
- What you price
- What you tolerate
- What you avoid
- What you sell
- How consistently you show up
- Whether you ask for the deal
- Whether you let yourself be visible
So yes — spreadsheets matter.
But for some people, the most congruent path to profit isn’t a new KPI dashboard.
It’s working on the belief that’s quietly capping their income.
We’re all different.
Some people love the numbers.
Some people need the inner work first.
The question is: which one are you?
MISSION — Mind Strategy vs Heart Essence
I catch myself discounting myself at times.
“Was it that good?”
“Do people really want to listen to me?”
My mind is very good at creating strategies — angles, plans, contingencies.
But when I drop into my heart, they start to fade.
And when I feel the essence of my spirit… I can’t hear them at all.
Maybe the future of business isn’t held in the strategy the mind can create — but in the essence of who we are.
Not in forcing.
Not in proving.
In alignment.
LIFE LATELY — Men’s Day & the Courage to Continue
Men’s Day was a success.
The energy at the start was calm — and then something powerful happened.
Men came together with their businesses, identities, and beliefs… and found common ground, deeper insight, and practical tools to take away.
One comment stopped me in my tracks:
“It was like a bubble had burst. I’ve been holding onto anger for so long. It’s conveniently kept me safe. It’s easier to be angry than to feel the fear and go for it.”
That’s what this work is about.
Not perfection.
Not performance.
The courage to continue — even when it feels heavy.
The farm mirrored this too.
Snow, frozen troughs, lack of food — challenges we adapt to day by day. We show up even when it’s cold, because we’re part of the same system.
And interestingly, with life in the balance on the farm — and our lack of experience — there’s surprisingly little fear.
Because the community is strong. Someone is always a phone call away.
A tree is only as strong as the forest that surrounds it.
So think about your own forest — your family, your friends, your community.
And ask yourself:
If you truly knew you couldn’t fail… how would you act?
The journey continues.
Your Turn
If this resonates, hit reply and tell me:
- Where are you noticing self-sabotage as a bridge right now — what’s the forward thought you keep not acting on?
- Which belief is most linked to your bottom line?
- “I’m not enough”
- “There isn’t enough”
- “It’s not safe to be seen”
- When you drop from mind into heart… what do you know is true?
To our continued collective growth,
Paul
